Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says Labor wants to scrap the temporary visa protections, because people receiving them need the security of a permanent visa.
“We’ve had a policy for some time now on saying that we wouldn’t continue with the temporary protection visas, that people needed the security that a permanent visa grants,” he said.
Mr Albanese said “people who have been recognised as refugees” need to know they will be allowed to stay somewhere secure and the government knows this.
“The government knows it’s not about to send people into Afghanistan and common sense should be applied here.”
