Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke says it should be a criminal offense for an employer to use loopholes to take money from workers’ wages.
“It is and should be a criminal offense for the worker to be taking money from the till,” Mr Burke said in the National Press Club conference on Thursday.
“But it is not a criminal offense in most of Australia for the employer to be taking money from the wages – that loophole must be closed.
“We will close that loophole in the legislation that I introduce on Monday.”
