What is day and night?
During the day, the sun can be seen from where you are and its light and warmth can reach you. Night is the time when the Sun is on the opposite side of the Earth from you and its light and heat cannot reach you.
We have day and night because the Earth rotates (or revolves) around an imaginary line called the axis, and different parts of the planet face toward or away from the Sun.
It takes 24 hours for the whole world to turn, and we call that a day. During the year, the length of the day changes in the part of the Earth where you live. The days are longer in summer and shorter in winter.
