Construction Week's latest episode marks one year to go until the launch of Expo 2020 in Dubai and focuses on the major construction milestones.
Some of the major construction landmarks of the 4.38km2 site include the crowning of Al Wasl Plaza dome in September 2019, which was designed by US-based architects Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture.
The Al Wasl Plaza encloses a space of 724,000m2 and stands at 67.5m high.
The 22.5m crown of Al Wasl Plaza’s dome comprises 550 tonnes of moulded steel and the crowning of Al Wasl Plaza’s dome took 14 months of preparation, which began on 26 June 2018.
Other landmark structure completions include the three Thematic Districts – Mobility, Sustainability and Opportunity.
Built by the UAE's Al Futtaim Construction group, the Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability Districts will form the largest built-up area of the site and include 86 low-rise buildings that will house dozens of country pavilions.
