With our rapidly changing climate, and increasing environmental pressures from air pollution, lichen are the perfect tool to monitor these ongoing changes. They’re highly sensitive organisms that react quickly to sudden changes in air quality and climate, so they’re ideal indicator species for us to study.
Generally the larger in size, and greater the diversity of lichen species found in one location, the better the air quality!
