Results in Republican primary
Donald Trump has won three states in Tuesday’s primary for the Republican presidential nomination. And he’s leading in a fourth. But Trump lost Ohio to the state’s governor, John Kasich. Meanwhile, Florida Senator Marco Rubio has dropped out of the race. The delegates that Rubio won in Puerto Rico last week can now vote for another candidate at the National Convention in July. A Republican candidate needs 1,237 to be nominated. Trump currently has 621.
Russia continues pull-out
The Russian Defence Ministry says another group of Russian forces has left its air base in the province of Latakia. President Vladimir Putin ordered the military to withdraw on Monday and the first group left on Tuesday. However, Russian media has reported that Moscow will continue air strikes against Daesh and other groups it considers terrorists. Turkey, the US, several Arab states, and human rights groups accuse it of mostly striking civilians. The war in Syria has now entered its sixth year. It began with protests against Bashar al Assad.The conflict has killed more than 250-thousand people and displaced 11 million others.
Bus bombing kills 15 govt workers
A bus carrying government employees has exploded in the city of Peshawar killing at least 15 people. Another 35 were wounded. Officials say 10 kilogrammes of explosives had been planted on the bus.
US student sentenced to hard labour
Pyongyang has sentenced a university student to 15 years hard labour. North Korea says US national Otto Frederick Warmbier committed ‘severe crimes against the state.’ Pyongyang has accused Warmbier of trying to steal a banner from a restricted area of the hotel where he’d been staying. Warmbier was visiting the country on a Young Pioneer Tour.
