Watch as LED Source Wichita franchisee, Travis Hettenbach tries out a new product on the market for converting T5 fluorescent fixtures to LED. The tubes used in this video are direct-fit - meaning they are ballast compatible and require no rewiring or bypassing of the ballast. You can simply remove the T5 FL tubes and put in the LED tubes in their place!
Overall the results were very good - we did lose about 4% total light output, but in MOST environments, that's not going to be a noticeable difference. In my demo fixture, we went from 225w to 124w - so total savings was about 100w (on this 4-lamp fixture). It's safe to say you should see about 20-25w savings per tube with this conversion.
As expected, no warmup time was noted with the LEDs. They were at full brightness right from the start - where the FL tubes took about 60-90 seconds.
Full disclosure: I DID have an incompatible ballast at first that required me to change to a different ballast. This is something we can help you with in identifying your current ballast and determining if they are compatible. There are several of these tubes on the market right now and the list of compatible ballasts is constantly growing.
Overall, a great product with a big energy savings, good light output, and an easy conversion!
