When it’s time to harvest hay, there are two equipment methods to choose from: mower conditioners or non-conditioning disc mowers. Disc mowers were the former standard in harvest equipment for their ability to breeze through the tough conditions with a clean, even cut. However, mower conditioners are now becoming a staple in large-scale hay operations for their ability to both mow and condition the hay in less time. Vermeer Makin’ Hay Minute host Bryan Setzer talks with forage expert Tim Schnakenberg, Agronomist from University of Missouri Extension, to discuss the situations where each type of mower works best.
