Pykara waterfalls is around 19-20 kms from ooty city centre and on Gudalur road. This is the most visited place in ooty.
Pykara Falls and Pykara Lake-Boating Point are different location and separated approx. 2-3 kms from each other, and one has to take go-around route for reaching boating point from pykara falls.
Pykara falls is a beautiful natural streams of water, rather it is a cascade and not a falls, amid dense pine forests.
From car parking, 500 mtr. gentle walk upto tkt. counter and then some 100 steps to go down to reach the falls. Electric car is available to reach upto entry point with a charge of 20 Rs for one side.
Pykara falls having mesmerising view and photogenic location. You can definitely spend 1 or 2 hour to see the beauty around. Must be visited after monsoon season, so that water level is optimal and greenery at it's best.
The surroundings of the Pykara are famous for the Toda settlements and these are one of the very few placements where you find the Todas in their natural habitat. It is advisable to take some warm clothes with you even during summer as it can get pretty chilly during the evenings.
It is preferable to stay away from the lake and falls during the monsoon. Especially, the falls are very unpredictable during the monsoons as the level of water might rise suddenly without any forewarning and can result in catastrophe for any tourist caught unawares.
