On December 24th there is a local tradition in Cocoa Beach where hundreds of surfers gather dressed as Santa to spread holiday cheer to the thousands of spectators along the beach join us we watch the festivities.
Surfing Santas started out as a small, family day by George Trosset and his family in Cocoa Beach in 2009 and has turned into a global phenomenon. People from all over congregate on Christmas Eve in Cocoa Beach to celebrate the holidays with Santa, friends and family. Despite the 30-40 degree temperatures we had on this day, which are unusually cold for this tropical climate, the temperatures did not keep the crowds away.
The event started at 7:30 am. There was live music, holiday costume contests, Hawaiian dancers and of course, surfing Santas. Enough fun for everyone.
Over the past decade, Surfing Santas has grown into one of the most unique and fun-filled charity events the world has ever seen. The event benefits the Florida Surf Museum which is “Preserving Floridas Surfing History” and Grind for Life, a local charity benefiting people suffering from cancer.
