Η ατομική έκθεση “Cellular” της Αντωνίας Παπατζανάκη αποτελεί μια συνάντηση της τέχνης με τη βιολογία.

Στη σειρά έργων Cellular η Αντωνία Παπατζανάκη διερευνά την έννοια της οργανικής μονάδας, το βασικό κύτταρο της ζωής. Η καλλιτέχνιδα εμπνέεται από βιολογικές κυτταρικές δομές, το εγγενές φως τους και την καθολικότητά τους. Η σειρά κινείται μεταξύ γλυπτικής, χαρακτικής και ζωγραφικής. Κάθε έργο αποτελείται από επάλληλα επίπεδα χαραγμένου πλεξιγκλάς που φωτίζονται από το εσωτερικό του, ενώ τα οργανικά σχήματα χρωματίζονται και τονίζονται από τη διάθλαση του φωτός πάνω στις χαράξεις. Είτε ως φωτεινά έργα - από πλεξιγκλάς ανοξείδωτο ατσάλι και φως - είτε ως εκτυπώσεις σε χαρτί, τα έργα καταδεικνύουν το διαρκές ενδιαφέρον της δημιουργού για τον κόσμο και τα πρωτογενή στοιχεία του και υποδηλώνουν τον πρωταρχικό ρόλο του φωτός στην ύπαρξη της ζωής.
Στόχος της έκθεσης Cellular είναι να προσφέρει στο ευρύ κοινό μια ιδιαίτερη εικαστική εμπειρία καθώς και επιστημονική γνώση για τη βασική μονάδα της ζωής, το κύτταρο, και το ρόλο του φωτός στη διατήρηση της. Για το λόγο αυτό η έκθεση συνοδεύεται από επιστημονικές διαλέξεις και εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα για μαθητές σχολείων.

The solo exhibition “Cellular” by Antonia Papatzanaki brings art and biology together.

In the Cellular series, Antonia Papatzanaki moves among sculpture, engraving, and painting. The works consist of successive panels of engraved Plexiglas illuminated by internal light sources. Their organic shapes are coloured and highlighted by the refraction of light on the carvings. Whether as luminous works (made of light, Plexiglas, and stainless steel) or as prints on paper, the artist recreates in visual form the cellular structures found in the natural world, bearing in mind the recent discoveries made in the field of biology. This transformation in the structure of matter demonstrates Papatzanaki’s constant interest in the world and its primary elements. The artist is inspired by the principal creator — Nature — to recall the cell in its infinite manifestations. This type of biomorphism results in extremely interesting shapes and vibrant colors, which, as an artistic result and with their inner light, create an autonomous world. Papatzanaki’s ultimate objective is to denote the primary role of light in the existence of life.
The exhibition Cellular aims at providing the public with a distinct visual experience, scientific knowledge regarding the basic unit of life, and the role of light in life maintenance. For this purpose, the exhibition is accompanied by scientific lectures and educational activities for school students.
