Manmohan Singh Death: Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP Over Ex-PM Manmohan Singh's Funeral At Crematorium
Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of 'insulting' Manmohan Singh by denying a memorial site for his last rites. "The great son of Mother India and the first Prime Minister of the Sikh community, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji has been totally insulted by the present government by performing his last rites today at the Nigambodh Ghat," Rahul Gandhi said. The Congress urged the Centre to perform the former PM's last rites at a dedicated memorial site. However, the government chose to cremate the body at Nigambodh Ghat, a public crematorium. This sparked controversy, prompting the Union Home Ministry to clarify that a memorial for Singh will be built in Delhi, and his family has been informed. Rahul Gandhi tweeted that the last rites of former PMs are traditionally held at designated sites for public homage.
