More than 200 children from The Armory’s CityTrack and Little Feet programs gave a heroes’ welcome to northern Manhattan firefighters, policemen, doctors, nurses and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) during the inaugural “Real Heroes Day” at The Armory. The honorees participated in track & field drills and raced alongside elementary school and middle school athletes sporting hero capes.
“There are times when a child’s first experience with a firefighter, police officer, doctor or nurse is during a crisis. We really want to help the children build positive relationships with these people instead of remembering them from a negative moment. We have a lot of incredible people in this neighborhood to introduce to our students. So we thought we would bring in another group of spectacular folks- Real Heroes!” said Alberto Aquino, Director of Youth Programming for The Armory.
Thank you to the Upper Manhattan “Real Heroes” who participated in this event; FDNY Engine 95, NYPD 33rd and 34th Precincts along with doctors, nurses and EMTs from Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center.
