In her talk, Dr Rukmini Banerji underscores a striking issue in India: while over 98% of children are enrolled in school, basic learning levels remain unacceptably low across all grades. She emphasizes that the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 is crucial to address this disparity and ensure that every child not only attends school but also achieves meaningful learning outcomes.
Dr Rukmini Banerji is the Chief Executive Officer of Pratham Education Foundation. She was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University (1981-83) and completed her PhD at the University of Chicago in 1991. She has worked extensively in Pratham’s education programs in both rural & urban areas.
She has played a significant role in designing and supporting large-scale partnerships with state governments in India to improve children’s learning outcomes. Dr Banerji led Pratham’s research and assessment efforts, including the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) exercise from 2005 to 2014. She is the first recipient of the Maulana Abul Kalam Shiksha Puraskar Award. In 2021, she was awarded the Yidan Prize for Education Development. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
