Villagers in northwest China's Qinghai Province have saved an injured snow leopard found lying near a forest road with wounds on one of its hind legs.
The leopard was first spotted on Wednesday by a villager named Tuding who lives in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
"I saw the snow leopard on my way to the town. I wanted to take a photo of it from my vehicle but soon I found it crouched there completely still," said Tuding.
Tuding and his friends brought the animal back to their village and sent for a vet from the local forestry administration.
The almost two-year-old female leopard managed to stand up after having its wound disinfected and bandaged by the doctor.
Tuding, who is now keeping the leopard at his home, said he will release the animal back into the wild when it has recovered from the injury.
The snow leopard is listed on the Red List of Threatened Species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the world's main authority on the conservation status of species.
Its total wild population has been estimated at 4,000 to 7,000 individuals with about 60 percent living in China.
