Composer Daniel Perttu is talking about his latest work “Planets Odyssey” Piano Concerto that was commissioned by Jeffrey Biegel. He chose scientific aspects of the planets that we as humans can find compelling. Daniel would love the idea of his work being used in education to enhance student's understanding of the planets but it could also be a great way to combine understandings from different fields. On the one hand there is the scientific research and on the other hand there is showing how the artist creates something of aesthetic interest out of that.

"This concerto is in a theme and variations form that begins with the “Big Bang,” followed by the pianist introducing the main theme of the concerto. This theme is then varied as the pianist visits each planet and is inspired by the unique properties of each planet. This is based off of knowledge current in 2021 about each planet." Daniel Perttu
"Education. Science. Music. Art. Perhaps this contributes to why orchestras may commission a new composition reflecting what is currently known about the solar system. As students study our universe in their classes, wouldn't it be interesting to combine their learning about the solar system with new music, along with art classes as well? Here is composer Dan Perttu describing the 'how' he composed the music for his Odyssey through the solar system. We invite orchestras to co-commission "A Planets Odyssey for Piano and Orchestra" which they can integrate into science, music and art l programs in their schools as they also learn the added importance of listening to new music." Jeffrey Biegel
