Here we are in another famous area of Seoul : Apgujeong-dong, which is still part of Gangnam district. In the 1990s, Apgujeong was the hotspot for the very wealthy young Koreans (called "오렌지족", the Orange people) who spent their parents money in luxury goods, alcohol and other imported products that were crazily expensive at that time. Nowadays, the area is mostly known for the luxury stores, the numerous dermatologists and plastic surgery clinics. The Hyundai Department store and the Galleria Department store have been the 2 landmarks of Apgujeong for several decades. Apgujeong-ro or Apgujeong Street is like the "Champs-Elysees" of Seoul and most of luxury companies have established their flagship stores on this avenue. More recently, the local officials decided to open K-star Road, a project mixing pop art and Kpop in the shape of cute bear-like statues with unique design according to the group it is meant to represent. This led to more and more teenagers and foreign tourists coming to the area to admire the figures and take selfies.

I thought about going in the back streets but Apgujeong Rodeo was really dead empty, there are far less stores than 2 years ago before the pandemic, and of course it is nothing compared to what it used to be in the 1990s-2000s. Therefore, instead of filming clinics or pc-bang in the small alleys, I thought it would be nice to see the Han river from both sides and step foot in Gangbuk (northern side of the city) just for few minutes, even if it meant doing a 30 minutes detour. Besides, we end up right in front of Seoul forest which I will cover in an up-coming video (when it will be less hot and humid).
