The Samajwadi Party leader SP Maurya who wanted a ban on the Ramcharitmanas has been elevated to the post of National General Secretary. The party chief Akhilesh Yadav has faced a lot of backlash because of Maurya's comment. Swami Prasad Maurya, a member of the SP Legislative Council, met party President Akhilesh Yadav here on Saturday at the party office and discussed the caste-based survey, despite being embroiled in controversy over his remarks on the Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas. Maurya arrived at the SP office around noon and met with Yadav for about 90 minutes. He later stated that the meeting was about a variety of issues, including the acceleration of the campaign for a caste-based survey. The Samajwadi Party has been making strident calls for a caste-based census in the state. SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav had promised to conduct a caste survey in the state if his party won the assembly election last year.
