Footage released by South Korea's coast guard shows Lee Jun-seok, the captain of the doomed Sewol ferry scrambling to safety and callously abandoning the sinking ship while hundreds passengers remained in peril.
The newly-released video, taken moments before the boat completely capsized, shows the 69-year-old, who was among the first to flee, shimmying pantless to the edge of the vessel and being whisked to safety, seemingly apathetic to the fate of the hundreds of children still trapped inside.
The video has fueled fresh outrage over the handling of the disaster and the captain, along with two of the boat's crew members are now being charged with homicide through abandonment for their actions and are facing a life sentence.
