The bluebells this year in the coppice have been wonderful. But not all bluebells are blue and not all are native. Non-native plants (and insects and animals and diseases) continue to be introduced into the UK with wide-ranging repercussions for wildlife and (eventually) human lives and livelihoods (ash dieback, sika deer for instance). Anyway we are looking at bluebells here. Here’s how to tell the difference between native bluebell, Spanish bluebell and the hybrids.

BSBI is the Botanical Society of the British Isles. Their web site is full of good stuff.
Allium triquetrum is 3-cornered leek. The flower stem is triangular in section. Non-native and invasive in Cornwall.
The native bluebell variety with the unusual large green bracts is (thanks to Howard's Orchids who commented on a previous vid) "a soughtafter (and usually expensive) version that would be be labelled as Hyacinthoides non-scripta 'Bracteata' when sold by plant nurseries." We'll leave it in the wood....
