The Indian Ocean Tsunami that struck 20 years ago today was a disaster of unimaginable scale, claiming over 230,000 lives across 14 countries.

Today, we honour the memory of those affected and commit to building a safer future. UNDP and the Government of Japan are helping schools and communities build a culture of preparedness, so that we never again have to experience such a tragic loss of life.
