A choke tube constriction pattern test for the HEVI-Shot HEVI Steel duck hunting ammunition. I used Carlson's Sporting Clays chokes at Modified, Improved Modified, Full, and Extra Full, to test how tight you can choke steel shot before the patterns begin to get worse. This experiment and review yielded impressive results and busted some common waterfowl hunting ammo myths. Pattern density did get worse with tighter chokes but actually did best with XF choke. This is a premium non-plated steel shot commonly used to hunt ducks and geese.

The shells used were HEVI-Shot's HEVI Steel #4 shot, 3", 1.25oz (239 pellets), 1500 FPS. I did the test with the Mossberg 940 Pro Waterfowl shotgun with a 28" barrel. The patterns were done at 40 yards with a tripod and shot at huge paper. Carlsons provided the chokes I tested in this video at my request, thanks to them for their support.
