On March 30, 1282, the people of Palermo came together to celebrate the Easter vigil known as Vespers. It was a festive celebration filled with food, song, and tarantella dance. The "tarantella" is characterized by vivacious and spirited steps and accompanied by the driving beat of sheep-skin tambourines. It is Sicily's most ancient and famous dance and is still performed there to this day.
