STORYLINE:
Thousands of Haitians protested on Saturday in the capital against the country's ongoing political crisis, one day after the electoral council said it was forced to delay a presidential election runoff it said due to a "deteriorating security environment."
The runoff had been set for Sunday.
The protesters are demanding the ouster of President Michel Martelly, who is due to leave office on 7 February. It is unclear if an interim government will take power then or if some other solution can be negotiated.
Government opponents have insisted that the first round of presidential balloting on 25 October was marred by massive fraud in favor of the president's hand-picked successor, businessman Jovenel Moise.
The runoff was originally supposed to be held on 27 December, and was then rescheduled for Sunday.
Moise speaking at a news conference Saturday asked for the electoral council to set another date for the runoff vote.
Jude Celestin, also a businessman and the other candidate in the runoff, said he would boycott the vote, though his name remained on the ballot.
