Susan's been busy today picking up bats from the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital and she not only brought me a lovely Little Red flying-fox but she also transported Liam the Long-eared bat to Aiden for care.
Liam was clipped by a ceiling fan which is not uncommon as they fly around searching for bugs.
Without consulting the bat book, I think Liam is a Lesser long-eared as opposed to a Gould's Long-eared but I'm happy to be corrected.
These gorgeous, hovering bats are found in a wide range of habitats and they give birth to twins during October to November.
Those sharp little teeth crush through the carapaces of insects and effectively munch them into oblivion doing humankind an enormous service.
Thanks so much to the RSPCA for caring for this pair and also to Susan for the never ending trips she does rescuing and ferrying bats around.
