I could not find this anywhere so here's hoping it helps someone. My washer would not heat the water so getting poor results and excess mildew on the seal. Reading around this doesn't stop the machine or trigger an error but there are 'fault codes' to help work out what is wrong. There was lots of info on getting the newer machines with a display to go into service mode but not for these older machines.
So Here goes:
Start with machine off, program selector on 'Finish' and door open.
Close door.
Hold Start button while turning on.
Wait 2 seconds.
Release Start Button then:
press, release, press, release, press and hold until light flashes then release.
Turn the selector knob one stop to right (here its Coton 95)
Watch the 'Soak/Pre-wash' LED and interpret according to the table on page 71 of this service manual:

2 long flashes for me = F20 Heating Fault
Which in the troubleshooting section of the same manual states:
Fault Code F20, Heating Symptom
During operation, this fault is not indicated via any LEDs on the Control Panel. The program continues, however poor wash results, and longer than usual operating times may be noticed.
Cause
The water is not being heated.
Remedy
Check the Heater Relay and Relay circuit.
Check the Heater Circuit for an open or short circuit.
So in I go!
