A wildfire that broke out in a mountainous national park on the Spanish island of Tenerife has spread to 4,450 acres in 24 hours as firefighters struggled to contain the blaze amid difficult terrain conditions, as reported by Reuters.
As per local news sources, some 150 people have been evacuated so far from half a dozen villages in the sparsely populated area in the island's northeast, made up mostly of farms and holiday homes.
Authorities deployed 14 aircrafts and a combined 250 firefighters and military personnel. A water-bombing seaplane arrived from the mainland while two others are expected today. A local official also stated that all access to the mountains on the island has been closed off.
