Honoured with the title, Shahzada-e-Jorī (Prince of the Jorī), Sardar Jasdeep Singh is a up and coming UK based musician, musicologist and educator preserving the Jorī tradition of the Punjab Gharanā being one of the few exponents of the jorī of his generation the world over.
Having studied under the leading representative of the instrument internationally, Ustad Sukhvinder Singh Namdhari, he is currently taking further guidance under one of the world’s leading Tabla maestros, Pandit Yogesh Samsi.
Jasdeep has performed in the UK at venues such as The Vortex, Camden, Cafe OTO, the Nehru Centre, London, York Early Music Festival, The MAC, Birmingham, Seven Arts, Leeds, Smorgaschord, Oxford.
Internationally, he has performed regularly at festivals in Germany, France, Netherlands as well as the Angelica Festival Bologna, Fes Festival Morocco, the Morning Ragas festival in Amritsar, and at concert venues in Europe such as the Teatro Municipal, Lisbon, Teatro San Leonardo, Italy, Malaysia at the Temple of Fine Arts, Kuala Lumpur and most recently Mumbai at the prestigious Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
His research endeavours relate to the lost traditions and percussion of Punjab, writing for NCPA Mumbai, India's premier cultural institution. He is actively involved in archiving rare repertoires of pakhawaj, jorī and tabla across India and Pakistan under the mentorship of the esteemed musicologist, Saqib Razaq.
