Joan Mir has endured probably the worst season in his grand prix so far. Not even 2 years after winning the MotoGP World Title. Mir hasn’t won a race since November 2020 and after a respectable 2021 with a 3rd place finish overall. 2022 has just been horrible for the Spaniard.
He has endured a terrible run of form that has seen him score 6 DNF’s in his last 9 races. And to make things worse, he had a monster high side on lap 1 of the Austrian Grand Prix which seen him fracture and tear ligaments in his right ankle. Which will see him miss the race in Misano.
But, not to forget that Joan Mir’s future still hasn’t been announced, as you know Suzuki are out of MotoGP at the end of the season.
His teammate Alex Rins has secured his future by signing for LCR Honda. But, it seems that Mir will sign for Repsol Honda and be teammates with Marc Marquez from 2023 and beyond.
A number of factors can contribute to why the 2020 World Champion has struggled so much in 2022.
Even then, Joan Mir’s management team have said that nothing is signed yet and there is a possibility for a sabbatical season in 2023, which would be crazy to think that one of MotoGP’s best talents, wouldn’t be on the grid in 2023. But this is highly unlikely, as Honda have wanted Mir for a number of years now, even going back as far as 2017 in his title winning Moto3 season.
We are confident Joan will be on the grid next year in Repsol colours, but until it is officially announced. Anything can happen.
It is sad to see Joan Mir’s season go like this, it is certainly one that he would like to forget as coming into 2022 the expectations were high, but the key and main thing is now is that we see him fully recover from his ankle injuries and get back to racing as soon as possible.
