Malcolm Sargent (29.04.1895 - 03.10.1967); "Sir" since 1947. English conductor, organist and composer. Also famous as a choral conductor. Some highlights:
1928 until his death: conductor of the Royal Choral Society
1932: severe attack of tuberculosis, which prevented him from conducting for some years
1936: made himself unloved by orchestra musicians by stating in an interview that orchestra musicians did not deserve a "job for life". This was all the more unfortunate because it was precisely the orchestral musicians who had supported him during his illness. From then on he had a strained relationship with British orchestras.
1939 - 1942: first conductor Hallé Orchestra
1942 - 1948: First conductor Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
1948 - 1967: Chief conductor of the "Proms"
1950 - 1957: First conductor BBC Symphony Orchestra
