“As we look forward to the future, it is my hope that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will remain true and responsive to the needs of the Filipino people for the past 125 years,” President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed as he urged DPWH to remain steadfast in its mandate of providing a more robust infrastructure development for the country anchored in the Administration’s 8-point socioeconomic agenda.
The President made these remarks during his attendance to the 125th anniversary celebration of DPWH, where he underscored the importance of ensuring the resilience, dependability, adaptability and sustainability of projects so future generations can use and benefit from it.
“Incorporate elements of our culture and history into our infrastructure designs to foster a sense of pride and belonging among our communities. Harness the power of technological advancements and innovations in the development of our infrastructure systems,” he conveyed.
He encouraged DPWH to streamline the Agency’s procedures, prevent delays and cost and overruns, as well as enforce transparency in all endeavors, projects and transactions.
Since its establishment on 23 June 1898, the DPWH has delivered numerous flagship projects that produced dynamic accomplishments, which according to the Chief Executive, have changed and improved the nation’s landscape. He emphasized the need to ensure long-term plans and solutions to keep the country’s infrastructure thriving.
“The decision that we made today, we will have to live for the next 80 to 100 years. So huwag nating isipin kung ano lang iyong maganda ngayon. Kailangang tumagal ito,” the President stated.
“With all of us working together, I am certain that we can form a united front and build infrastructure that will not only improve our landscape, but enrich and empower our entire citizenry,” President Marcos Jr. said.
