Customer Reviews:
- Excellent UPS with Pure Sine Wave - Works With My Garage Door Opener!
I did some extensive research into the use of a computer UPS as a backup to a garage door opener. I discovered that for most motors, you need a pure sine wave to keep from damaging the motor, and I wasn't sure about what size to get. I measured the power drain on the garage door opener and determined that this UPS would probably operate my opener a hundred times before it ran out of power.
The UPS filters and cleans up the input sine wave, and even prevents surges and any potential damage from the source power, so garage door opener motors and electronics will not be damaged in the event of power line fluctuations, which is a real plus. The cost is a lot less than replacing the opener, and now I have an excellent battery backup, just like you have with the newest openers. I especially like the fact that I could mount it horizontally, which made the installation much less problematic.
Two enthusiastic thumbs up for this fine product. The video shows my installation and operation of the unit.
- Should be a little more efficient
Pros:
• Best price for sine wave UPS
• Energy efficient
Cons:
• Not as efficient as values submitted to EnergyStar
• No response from support after reporting my efficiency findings
- Excellent & Switches Seamlessly
It works perfectly to protect my computer & equipment from periodic short power disruptions. It seamlessly switches to battery power while leaving everything running. I use it for my PC, 28" monitor, DSL modem, router, laptop, speakers, and anything else I want to plug in. The power has tripped 21 times in the month that I've had it, although that doesn't mean I have literally been using my PC each of 21 times that it switched, but I do have confidence in it now. I used to turn off my PC, internet, and equipment every time I did laundry or ran my garbage disposal that caused my power to trip in my office. This has definitely saved me from worrying about that any further. My last motherboard broke after the power dropped 6 times while the PC was running before I got this. I still wouldn't use it in a lightning storm, as there is no reason to tempt fate, but use this with confidence when you should be able to.
It is surprisingly heavy (28.5 lbs). But it has a nice flat bottom to help distribute the weight. It is sufficiently compact, but is not tiny either. So you need some room, but isn't a space hog. It has 2 banks of 5 outlets, but only 1 bank is battery protected. Each bank has one offset outlet for a larger power adapter and 4 narrow side-by-side outlets. But you can buy power strip liberator cables that solve that problem. It is nice that its own power cord is a wall hugger so it can fit easily next to furniture. The power cord is plenty long too, and quite thick. The main power button doesn't work like you might initially think. You have to hold it a few seconds to turn on or off, because it is protecting you from accidentally turning off as it is intended for uninterrupted power. So if you planned to toggle on and off frequently, beware that you hold a few seconds each time. The display looks very nice and is easy to cycle through. You can hold the display button to turn it off or cycle modes too. Although there are only 3 buttons, check the instruction sheet because they do more than just 3 things depending on how many you press and for how long you hold them. It is very silent, most of the time, and never buzzes like my other power center in the same room. The USB charging ports are standard 1A ports that most USB charging devices expect. Some tablets now charge faster with special 1.8A port, but usually work on 1A ports too just more slowly.
