In this cultural heritage vlog, I take you on a 16-day journey to my grandparents' ancestral village in China—where my family's legacy began before they emigrated to Jamaica. Growing up Blasian (half Black, half Asian) and raised by my Chinese grandparents, I’ve always felt deeply connected to my Chinese roots, even though I didn’t look like the typical "Chinese girl."
My mother, who was born and raised in Jamaica, has never visited China before—making this trip even more special as I was able to film her and some of her siblings where their parents are from.. original houses and all! This vlog dives into the rich history of my family, our Hakka culture (over 44 million Hakka speakers throughout the world), and how their story shaped my identity.
This video is for all the Chinese Jamaicans, for all those who have lineage back in China and really for anyone who has never been but would be interested! I may not have the best camera gear, but every moment is real and full of love. This is my tribute to family, culture, and the power of storytelling across generations.
