(3 Oct 1994) The leader of the victorious Rwandan patriotic
Army (RPA) has appealed to Rwandans not to seek revenge against
Hutus responsible for the massacre of Tutsis. His appeal was made
during a speech at a weekend rally in Kigali where the Government
displayed its military power. More than 30,000 people packed the
Nyamirambe Stadium in the capital for the rally. President Pasteur
Bizimungu - a Hutu - told the crowd there must be respect for
human rights in Rwanda. "If that does not happen, all our efforts
will have been in vain," he said.
