North 24 Parganas (WB), Feb 20 (ANI): West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was stopped at Dhamakhali on his latest attempt to visit the strife-torn region of Sandeshkhali on February 20. He was stopped despite the nod from the Calcutta High Court to visit the region. This is Suvendu Adhikari’s third attempt to visit the North 24 Parganas island which has been on the boil since February 5.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, “...They (police) are saying that the state government has moved to the Division Bench and your order will no longer be applicable...The main pillar of the Constitution is the judiciary. Mamata Police is challenging the Calcutta High Order. I will give them one hour to re-think otherwise I will go to the Calcutta High Court.”
Incidentally, the Calcutta High Court on February 19 allowed Adhikari to visit Sandeshkhali. It asked the BJP leader to file an undertaking that he and his supporters won’t engage in any activity that may lead to the deterioration of the law and order situation.
