On this beautiful Sunday morning, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains #562 & #573 used the infamous “Comet set” for a roundtrip between LA and San Diego.

This marks the 3rd time that the full Comet set has been down to San Diego, and for the second time with Dash-8 #509 & NPCU #90225 on either end.

I decided to shoot this train at the Del Mar Bluffs, before chasing it downtown.

When I arrived, northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner #769 came thru with 2 SC-44 Chargers, going really slow along the cliff.

10 minutes later, Amtrak #562 showed up with the Comet set, making its way down the grade and into the Sorrento Valley area.

I then chased it down to Middletown and caught it from California Street.
