In this poem the poet Harry Behn tells us the life of a kite.It has been compared with the life of a human being. A new kite looks bright when the sky is clear and blue. The kite takes a plunge and bends sideways. Its tail produces a cracking noise. Then suddenly the kite rises high like a ship with sailcloth. The kite has only one sail of string. It rides Over the strong winds and climbs to their top like a ship. It pulls forward when the wind is strong. But as the wind fall, it also rests for a while.
Following poetic devices have
been used in the poem The Kite:
1. Simile: It is the comparison of
one thing with another thing
of a different kind. e.g. "'soars
like a ship".
2. Alliteration: It is the
occurrence of the same
sound at the beginning of
adjacent or closely connected
words. e.g. "bright on the blue,
"a dive and a dip", "Climbs too
the crest', "string goes slack",
"breeze blows", "the top of a
tree.".
3. Enjambment: It is the
continuation of a sentence or.
clause across a line break.
e.g. "How bright on the blue ls
a kite when it's new".
4. Repetition: It is the repetition
of various words or phrases
for poetic effect. e.g. "How
bright on the blue ls a kite
when it's new!" has been
repeated twice in the poem.
