E.T. The EXTRA TERRESTRIAL | MERRIE MOVIE MEMORIES Mini review of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is more than just a sci-fi movie for kids. It’s a story about friendship, loneliness, and the magic of childhood. Spielberg does something remarkable here: he takes a simple premise—an alien stranded on Earth—and turns it into a deeply emotional, universal tale. But for me, the standout is how Spielberg captures the wonder of discovery, without ever making it feel forced.
The heart of the film is really the bond between Elliott and E.T. That scene where they say goodbye? It’s one of the most emotional moments in cinema. I think Spielberg taps into something timeless here—this longing to connect, even with something as different as an alien. That amazing John Williams’ score. It’s almost a character in itself. That final crescendo when E.T. and Elliott take off on the bike—it's pure movie magic. The film may be about an alien, but it’s one of the most human films Spielberg has ever made. E.T. is a film that reminds us what it’s like to be a kid again, to believe in something magical. If you haven’t seen it, it’s one of those classics that only gets better with time.
