(21 May 2019) Activists were joined by members of Congress to rally near the Supreme Court on "National Day of Action to Stop the Bans" on abortion.
This comes in reaction to the passage of bills in Alabama, Georgia, Missouri and other states that restrict access to abortion.
"We are standing here at the Supreme Court because the Republicans and the right wing in this country thinks they're going to get the court to reverse Roe vs. Wade," said Rep. Diana DeGette (D) Colorado, co-chair of the Congressional Pro-choice Caucus.
"We won't let that. Happen. Everyday, in every way, we must resists. Can you do that? We have to stand up for our rights, right now."
The rally in Washington is one of many taking place around the country on Tuesday.
Governors in Kentucky, Ohio and Georgia have signed bans on abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected.
Alabama's governor signed a measure making abortion a felony in nearly all cases.
"We won't go back to the days of illegal abortion," said Democratic Rep. Donna Shalala of Florida.
"We will protect safe, legal abortions. And we will protect access to abortions for all. Mr. President your position is racist and sexist. We are pro-choice and we are proud."
