I conducted a 30-minute program on "VR and AI for empathy". I gave a presentation and conducted a discussion with the participants and other presenters. Special thanks to Dr. Meena Bhandari (Dean- ICFAI University) for her kind praise. I hope to be a part of the Global Youth Peace Accord again!
As Chris Milk in his #tedxtalk, Virtual Reality (VR) has been touted as an effective empathy intervention, with its most ardent supporters claiming it is “the ultimate empathy machine.” Using VR in pitching your solutions to the Syrian refugee crisis won't single-handedly resolve the problem, but it will bring the delegates at #UNICEF a step closer to #understanding and #empathizing with the cause by thrusting them in the shoes of a refugee.
In my presentation, I discussed the principles behind the success of the movie- Clouds Over Sidra- A 2015 virtual reality film about the Syrian refugee crisis. The movie was created by Gabo Arora and Chris Milk in partnership with the United Nations and Samsung Electronics. The film features a twelve-year-old in the Za'atari camp in Jordan, home to 84,000 Syrian refugees.
We also discussed the role of #VR in teaching racial empathy by discussing the example of the 1000 Cuts Journey where viewers become Michael Sterling, a Black man, encountering racism as a young child, adolescent, and young adult. This eye-opening simulation was developed by Courtney D. Cogburn, Ph.D.
I highlighted the role #AR plays in self-guided and classroom learning and the role of #AI in improving simulations and providing students with a #personalized experience. We discussed potential #challenges and #opportunities in this field.
I am very passionate about #teaching and the role VR can play in learning. In my school, I and my team conducted classes where we supplemented teaching with VR. This project secured a spot in the top 10 at #Changemaker #Challenge in Inventure Academy, Bangalore. Continuing this passion I have volunteered in various online programs as a teacher.
Kudos to all participants for their insightful #presentations and #discussions. Valid and thought-provoking points about AI in fields like #Education, #Law, #HumanRights, #ClimateChange, #Medicine were brought up. The debate and discussions were enlightening!
In all, we were joined by around 100 participants from over 10 countries around the world.

This event is to indulge our participants in the challenges posed by the inclusion of AI in all these fields and discuss to find practical solutions. The program is structured such that attendees will be discussing solutions to the challenges proposed by speakers and presenters.
