Welcome to the Advent Carol Service: Hope on the Horizon, Sunday 1st December 2024.

Advent is a season of hope and expectation. In scripture, song, and prayer, we journey together to greet our Lord Jesus Christ as he comes to meet us.

Woven into the service are the Advent Antiphons. These antiphons, or refrains, all beginning ‘O…’, were sung before and after the Magnificat at Vespers, according to the Roman use, on the days preceding Christmas Eve. They are addressed to God, calling for him to come as teacher and deliverer, with a tapestry of scriptural titles and pictures that describe his saving work in Christ.

The music for this service is sung by the Girls and Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir.
