Presentation by Katie Bessiere Sr. Director, Digital Consumer Insights & User Experience Research, Nickelodeon and
Allison Druin Chief Futurist, University of Maryland Research Division
A traditional research path generally starts with some important questions and expected answers. A co-design journey starts with shared goals and methods for design, but the outcomes are often surprises. While conducting research together, Nickelodeon and the University of Maryland's "Kidsteam" brought children into a co-design process from the very beginning of their partnership. Bessiere and Druin will present the path they took to become a thought community by mixing pipe-cleaners, sticky notes, iPads, and "Do Not Touch Buttons." As they describe the kids' questions, lessons learned, and the trust and shared energies established, you can expect the same kind of surprises they found—and an equal amount of fun.
