The toucan is a tropical bird species native to Central and South America. Toucans are known for their large and colorful bills, which can make up as much as one-third of their body length. Despite their size, toucans' bills are actually very light, made of a spongy material called keratin. Toucans use their bills to reach and grab fruit from branches that are out of reach, as well as to defend themselves from predators. They are also known for their loud and distinctive calls, which can often be heard echoing through the forest canopy.
