As the first of my gun reviews of the Gun Review Series, I discuss of the Tanfoglio Limited Custom .40 S&W which I use in competition in IPSC Standard Division. I have been shooting the Limited Custom for a little more than 6 and a half years (purchased the guns in 2010). I have more than 32,000 rounds through my main gun (hard chrome) and over 15,000 rounds through my backup Limited Custom.
Here are a few additional points that I didn't mention in my review or that I think it's important to expand upon. Both gun have been upgraded with Eric Grauffel's line of Xtreme parts with a couple of exceptions. Neither gun has the Xtreme hammer. As well, my Hard Chrome Limited Custom has a Henning flat trigger and DPM Recoil Reduction System. Finally, the Hard Chrome gun has the Xtreme firing pins that requires the firing pin safety block whereas the Gun Kote Limited Custom (my backup gun) has the Xtreme firing pin that does not required the firing pin safety block. So, there are the only differences between my two Limited Customs.
TRIGGER - The Henning trigger is an outstanding trigger and I prefer it over the Xtreme flat trigger that I have in my backup gun. The Henning trigger is a more "precise" trigger in that in has no excess movement. it is a "tight" trigger where the Xtreme trigger wiggles side to side, as an example.
SLIDE - The lightening of the slide aid in balancing the pistol and allows the slide to cycle faster. The lightening cut are well done and serves the purpose they were meant for. The lightening cuts also allows the barrel to cool / heat to escape as well.
Xtreme Firing Pin - Using the firing pin which doesn't require the firing pin safety block helps in reducing the trigger pull. I found that without the firing pin safety block, the trigger pull was reduce by almost a quarter pound in my backup Limited Custom.
It is important to note that once you have lightened the trigger pull to around 3 lbs, the factory firing pin will start to produce light primer strikes as the firing pin is not long enough. This is why it is important to install the Xtreme firing pin and Xtreme firing pin spring once you decide to do the trigger job to the gun and get the trigger pull 3lbs and less. My triggers are 2 lbs (slightly less) on the hard chrome and 1 lbs 12 oz on the Gun Kote gun (my backup gun).
FRONT SIGHT - The Xtreme fibre front sight is designed to support the fibre better than the factory fibre front sight. As well, the fibre itself is smaller in diameter than the factory fibre. Using the Xtreme fibre front sight significantly helps in maintaining the life of the fibre longer.
DPM RECOIL REDUCTION SYSTEM - I met the owner of the company at the 2014 World Shoot in Florida. I had a long talk with him about the DPM and with the research I did, I knew I made a good decision when I purchased several DPM systems for different pistols from Dimitrios (owner and inventor of DPM). Here is the company's website - www.dpmsystems.com .
Music is "Hey You" by MK2. Thanks for the great sound track.
