I'm Professor Kirsten McCaffery, working here at the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute.
My research is all about health literacy, which is about helping people understand information about health and disease.
It's particularly important for infectious disease and disease outbreaks because people need to understand very quickly what to do and why to do it.
We saw this very clearly during COVID with restrictions, testing and vaccinations.
There are different ways to make sure information is interpreted quickly, accurately and makes logical sense, and is trusted by a wide range of people.
And here at the Health Literacy Lab, we explore and test not only the message, but the best way to deliver that message among different populations be it using animations, infographics, videos or socials.
Our research helps to contain disease outbreaks quickly and effectively by communicating the best possible information to populations at risk.
