COP22: What next?
On 12 January 2017 the IChemE Energy Centre hosted 'COP22 - what next?' at The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), London, UK with participants joining in person or online through an interactive webinar.
Hosted by Chair of the IChemE Energy Centre, Professor Stefaan Simons, participants first heard from Board members Dr Rachael Hall and Mark Apsey about their experience at COP22 in Marrakech, followed by Dr Alison Cooke on her time spent working with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).
The audience was then invited for a discussion on on the outcomes of COP22 and the next steps we must take to implement the Paris Agreement.

*Dr Rachael Hall, IChemE Energy Centre Leadership Forum Coordinator and Model Site Lead, Severn Trent Innovation Team*
Rachael is currently a Model Site Lead in Severn Trent's Innovation Team, facilitating the testing and validation of new technologies on a live part of the network in relation to clean water production and distribution to provide a more proactive network.
Prior to this Rachael worked as an Alternative Energy Concepts Engineer for GE (formerly as part of Alstom Power) focusing on biomass/bioenergy, working closely with academic and industrial partners to bring the next generation of energy and associated technologies to the fore.
Rachael has a BSc in Chemistry, MSc (Eng) in Environmental and Energy Engineering, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering.
*Mark Apsey, IChemE Energy Centre Board member and Technical Services Director, Ameresco Limited*
Mark Apsey is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and ESOS Lead Assessor with IChemE. He has over 15 years experience in industry covering operations, capital projects, design and consultancy.
After working in the energy efficiency teams at WS Atkins, GlaxoSmithKline and Atkins Energy Division, he joined energyexcel llp (now Ameresco Limited) in 2009. Over the last 7 years Mark has been working exclusively in this field delivering real step change in energy, carbon and cost savings for major industrial customers.
*Dr Alison Cooke, Founder and Consultant, Cooke Associates*
Alison is an independent consultant in engineering and management, she established Cooke Associates in 2001. Her previous professional roles have included being an industrial mentor of graduate engineers for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, lecturing in engineering design, manufacture and management, and technical writing for a large number of research publications.
In May 2008 Alison was made a Fellow of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers and was the International Coordinator of the Institution's Steering Group on Future Climate – Engineering Solutions project (2009 - 2013), which feeds into the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
