We take another look at the important North-South rail corridor RFC 7 (Rail Freight Corridor 7) in this video; this time in Winter 2021 on the two days preceding Christmas Eve. A cold front brought temperatures below the freezing point - which promptly caused multiple issues to signals and switches. These problems disrupted the expected continuous traffic flow and resulted in delays. Nonetheless, some interesting trains could be caught on camera. Most of the trains running this line originate or terminate in the Czech Republic, a central European country without any direct ocean access. The closest ports are in Germany, notably in Rostock, Hamburg, and Bremen. Consequently, the majority of trains are intermodals, although other freight trains run here as well. The line is also used by multiple fast EuroCity trains connecting Prague and Budapest with Berlin, Hamburg, and Kiel. Almost all trains are led by modern, powerful locomotives made by Bombardier and Siemens, which go under the names TRAXX (such as BR 185 and BR 186) and Vectron (BR 193), respectively. Many of these units pack a thrilling 8,000+ hp onto the rails and are capable of running in different European electric railroad networks. This eliminates the need for stops to change locomotives at the borders. Enjoy this video from overseas!
