(Recalling a visit to Cuba) "The fact is that I do not forget the meeting with Commander Fidel Castro, one of the last he had before being deceased. He died a few days later. But let's focus on the future, and for us that means reinforcing friendship, reinforcing cooperation, reinforcing cultural cooperation, social cooperation, economical cooperation, political cooperation and diplomacy. STORYLINE:
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met with his Portuguese counterpart in Lisbon on Friday.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa held a welcoming ceremony for Diaz-Canel outside Libson's Jeronimos Monastery, before the pair spoke to journalists at a news conference.

Both leaders spoke of the close diplomatic relations by the two countries.

Diaz-Canel said conversations had "showed us a spirit of great cooperation and understanding, in what one can say were very fruitful conversations."

The visit took place ahead of a EU-CELAC Summit in Brussels next week, with EU and Latin America leaders due to meet for a two days of talks aimed at strengthening the partnerships between the countries attending, and discussing the EU-MERCOSUR agreement.
