These last 7 Words are very revealing to say the least! Empowering Global Ministries want to focus on the last sayings of Jesus Christ while he was on the cross. These sayings are sometimes called the seven last words. In this series we explore the meanings of these sayings in the order that they are said:
Video 1: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Luke 23:34
Video 2: “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43
Video 3: “Woman, behold your son. Son Behold your mother.” John 19:26–27
Video 4: “My God, My God, have you forsaken me?” Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34
Video 5: “I thirst.” John 19:28
Video 6: “It is finished.” John 19:29-30
Video 7: “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” Luke 23:46
But why are they significant? What do they reveal? Do they make a difference for you in the 21st century, in 2018?
Read through those words again. Forgiveness, paradise, mother, forsaken, thirst, finished, my spirit. When we think of the horrific death by crucifixion, and the flogging that occurred the day before, how could Jesus even think of other people or be articulate at all? We get our word ‘excruciating’ from this experience. The word literally means ‘out of the cross’.
