The myth of the Tucker 48's not backing up was born at the first showing of the Tin Goose (the Tucker prototype) at the Tucker Factory in Chicago on June 19th, 1947. While it was true that the car was having issues going in reverse, it was simply due to time as they were not able to finish the design or construction of the original transmission in time. They eventually switched to the Tucker Y-1 and/or Cord transmission and as you can see they back up just fine. This beautiful Tucker is #44 and is owned by Howard and Roz Kroplick from Roslyn, NY.
